Mick groans when \u201cLucky\u201d Ed Shetland joins his client.\u00a0 He is the associate of \u201cClever\u201d Hans Trotter and both are known for legal horseplay.<\/p>\n
\u201cTime for the dog and pony show,\u201d Mick mutters.<\/p>\n
Shetland remains standing when Mick moseys in, says, \u201cMoose, call me Mr. Ed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mick grins at Saulie.\u00a0 \u201cGot you now.\u00a0 You and Kit, fighting like cats and dogs, to create a ruckus so your aptly named pal, Cheeta, could pick pockets.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr. Ed snorts, while Saulie just barks, \u201cI\u2019m no fly, you\u2019re no spider.\u201d<\/p>\n

Saulie whines, \u201cYou think I threw the cat among the pigeons for monkey business?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cKit coughed it up,\u201d Mick lies. \u201cSaid you was the top dog.\u201d \u00a0In fact, Kit had hissed, \u201cI\u2019m no rat<\/em>\u201d and had promptly started to nap.<\/p>\n \u201cYou think I\u2019m a sap, sucker! \u00a0She ain\u2019t no canary.\u00a0 And besides, we were just larking.\u00a0 Not our fault if the gawkers were sitting ducks.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat dog don\u2019t hunt,\u201d Mick rumbles. \u00a0\u201cThis play has been your cash cow for donkey\u2019s years.\u00a0 Tell us where the loot is or your goose is cooked.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr. Ed interjects, \u201cHold your horses!\u00a0 Stop monkeying around!\u00a0 Your case is a pig\u2019s ear.\u201d<\/p>\n Just then Mick\u2019s partner Billy the Goat barges in.\u00a0 \u201cMick, Cheeta just surrendered.\u00a0 Seems some hens crossed the road, going home to roost, found him hiding, went ape, attracted wild geese who chased him. Says he\u2019ll confess if we save him from the angry birds.\u201d<\/p>\n Saulie looks like he\u2019s going to have kittens and Mick smiles. \u201cNow it\u2019s dog-eat-dog. \u00a0Best deal goes to the first to eat crow.\u201d<\/p>\n Saulie and Mr. Ed eyeball each other.\u00a0 Mr. Ed says, \u201cI\u2019ll be a monkey\u2019s uncle.\u00a0 This is a horse of a different color. \u00a0What are you offering?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cFirst to talk gets one year in the Wren Pen, the other five.\u201d<\/p>\n Saulie growls, \u201cThat snake in the grass.\u00a0 He\u2019ll just let the cat of the bag. \u00a0Me and Kit have the lion\u2019s share in a satchel in the Mustang\u2019s trunk.\u00a0 Don\u2019t know where Cheeta has squirreled away his cut of the pickings.\u201d<\/p>\n After Saulie is led away,\u00a0 Mick slaps Billy on the back.\u00a0 \u201cI swan, that was more fun than a barrel of monkeys.\u00a0 He swallowed that story, whole hog.\u201d<\/p>\n Billy hee-hawed, \u201cSaulie\u2019s going to be a bear with a sore head, when he finds out that when we nabbed Cheeta, Cheeta screamed he would chatter when pigs fly.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWell, thanks to you we\u2019ve got them both. \u00a0Killed two birds with one stone, three if you count Kit.\u00a0 And the good folks of MacDonald\u2019s Farm will get their goods back.
